I thought these things only happened in Argentina, but I guess it 's a world wide problem.
When I landed here in 2008 I got a called from somebody in prison. I had 10 seconds to accept the call.
I knew a few people here, but not what you would call prison material. I disconnected the call immediately.
Later I learned that it's a common extortion scam. A word to the wise.

someone texted me on a sunday morning from a number i didn't recognize saying (translated from spanish): "darling I'm in the hospital please buy a Movistar phone card for as soon as you can and send me the code!" Well... my boyfriend had Personal at the time and was actually asleep next to me but when I told him what happened he said it was probably someone texting from prison!

has a nice archive of scammers scamming the scammers and sending them on a wild goose chase.

one has 2 guys travelling to war torn Sudan, whilst another has scammers paying fortunes to import broken washing machines filled with breeze blocks.

I think I have to give this one a go myself - to scam the scammers :) Love it :)
