I figured they named the Palermo neighborhood for the one in Sicily... ?

I believe it has to do more with the saint San Benito de Palermo. There is a church with that name and if you see in jewelleries, plenty of accessories with the Saint's image.

Name comes from a Sicilian born landowner called Juan Dominguez Palermo.
Name comes from a creek named Palermo and small Chapel for San Benito

PS. San Benito comes From Nursia near Montecassino (not in Sicily)

The old Palermo station is so beautiful and elegant. Now it's a dump.
