I am fascinated with the Graf Spee history. My grandma, uruguayan who is 91 and in perfect conditions, always tells me the story of how she heard the cannon shots. She was living in Montevideo then, and everybody was amazed with the germans (in fact, more than half of the crew stayed in Uruguay living after the episode). Later, in the 40s, my grandma and my grandpa left Montevideo to live in a village called Punta del Este (population less than 10 thousands). Their neighbours told them how they could actually see the battleship!

This and the Maracanazo story (which was the day after her wedding) are two important reasons to love my grandma.
