Anyone recently extended a tourist stay and re-entered?

I know you can do the 90-day tourist entry and get an extension for an additional 90-days. I realize you can only get one extension but is it still possible to do one boarder crossing and return for one additional 90-day period?

In the decades I've been coming to Argentina probably 10+ times

They are apparently "cracking down" now but we have heard this narrative for 20 years. And since someone will inevitably reply with "No, trust me, this time they REALLY mean it" we have also been told "This time they really mean it" for 20 years. So it's up to you, no one can give you a correct answer.

My advice would be take the last ferry back with the company that docks in San Telmo near the edge of la boca as its often late and I know for a fact the customs officials just want to get the hell out of there and go home. They aint doing 2 hours overtime to deport / detain you. I've literally had they guy reach over the customs desk, yank my passport from my hand, smash the fewest buttons possible on his keyboard then shove my passport back into my chest and tell me to move

The ferry company that is referred to above is Colonia Express. I used them this year to go to Montevideo for a weekend. Very easy to get to.
You can take the C subway line to Constitucion stop and then catch a cab that goes for about 20 blocks straight down Brasil Street.

Are you asking if "you" can get the 90 day extension and then do a "border crossing and return" and get an additional 90 days?

I am assuming the goal is to always be in Argentina 'legally" without ever having an overstay, but in order to accomplish that, you would have to make the border crossing before the extension expires.

This has been successfully accomplished in the past, but, as far as I know (and remember from my previous posts, the border agents cannot override an extension (AKA a prórroga) issued by migraciones, so if you actually return before the prorroga expires, you most likely will not get 90 more days. You may only have the number of days that are left on the extension. You might get lucky and get ten days and after that you will have an overstay.

Hopefully, you would be able to wait until the prorroga expires to return; but it could be a lot more risky now to be allowed to reenter than in the past. Bajo_cero2 posted abour a group of "tourists" who were denied reentry from Chile on their first attempt (some years ago, well bedore rge decree of 2025.
