Argentina’s men’s size

Good evening everyone. My friend wears a 40 in men’s shoes in Argentina. Would like to buy him shoes here in Chicago. What size would I need to buy?? Thank you for your help!!

a quick google search tells me a 40 is around a 9.5 size in the US

Thank you. I googled also. At times I would get contradictory answers or the size charts were very different from others.

Not a good idea.
Shoes are more expensive than $50 and the Customs racket might kick in.
They might try to prize the goods according to their charts, add s&h and freight and come up eith a taxable figure, even requiring a customs expert intervention and fees.

A potential headache of a gift.

And i'm not counting going to the post office / customs office and waste a day or two swimming in paperwork. Just saying.
