Argentina makes international news for...cops beating up old people.

So many seem to base their positions on political violence, shutting down a free press, etc. based on whether the perpetrators/victims are 'left' or 'right' instead of democratic or autocratic. The ends always seem to justify the means - as long as those committing the violence, shutting down the press share the same ideology. It's why many feel that politicians and those who slavishly and unquestioningly follow them are jokes walking around with their heads up their you-know-what. Autocracy and the use of political goons are not exclusive to either the right or the left. But I'll admit it is much easier for politicians to distract and divide the public with the whole left/right dichotomy. Yet another reason to believe that no real solutions to the real issues we all face will come from politicians.

It is my considered opinion that the whole Left-Right paradigm was a 20th century way of looking at things. Today, it's just a distraction.

The great struggle of the 21st century is the ultra-rich against the rest of humanity.

Rather, I think I'd say that it was a Northern Hemisphere thing. Latin American politics never really fitted into the Left-Right continuum - especially Peronism which has always been blatantly both left and right. And even in the Northern Hemisphere it seems less a straight line and more a mobius strip: the more extremely you go to the left or to the right the more you end up with the same - people picking on groups they don't like and murdering them,.

It seems like the would-be executioner has been identified:

"By synchronizing and observing several videos — including drone footage from news networks TN and A24 — the shooter was identified by name and rank as a police corporal, thanks to a high quality picture of his uniform name tag".

Perhaps justice, of a sort, will be done, even though the minister for justice is a co-conspirator.

I'll add this, from the father of the photographer: “This is beyond the politics of ideology. It’s about humanity. And they have shown they lack that. It’s not just immoral, I believe there is even a pathological element here,” said Grillo. “There is something seriously wrong with these people.”

There is something seriously wrong with these people. Yes.

But surely that has been evident from the very start. For example, when that group of the leading lights of LLA went to visit the prison for a grinning group photo with some of the worst of those imprisoned for "genocide" during the last dictatorship. Think about that, now. They were expressing solidarity with men who had been instrumental in kidnapping, torturing, raping, and murdering thousands of men and women. It doesn't matter whether you think it was 8000 or 30000, that's just seriously wrong.

Yes, it's not just that the leading lights of LLA went to visit the prison as you say, to take photos with Alfredo Astiz, among others, but subsequently you have the government troll, Adorni, grinning and smirking as he deflects with: "It's a personal agenda of the deputies, who also don't represent the entire bloc or the Executive Branch because they are part of the Legislative Branch."

I've already said that Milei's signature achievement has been rehabilitating people like his VP Villaruel, and making her look like a normal, well-adjusted member of society, compared to him, of course. It seems there have been quite a few more hiding under the rocks with her.

There seems to be very little tolerance for differences of opinions with this current government . It seems to go against liberalist thinking and being allowed to just say what you think as the president so clearly does when talking about the Pope . China , Brazil and many other topics . A friend sent me this today and this for me was very ominous and orwellian . Please look at this video

Yeah, they went apeshit overboard today, They had the steel barricades up all around both the Casa Rosada and the Hall of Congress, several blocks of streets closed off, a couple subway stations closed, and a massive number of cops out to menace those incredibly dangerous seniors, who clearly represent a serious threat to the Republic (roll eyes)

They not only brought out the city cops, PFA, and Gendarmería, they even turned out the Prefectura Naval, the military police. So very glad I don't live downtown anymore. (knock on wood).

Depending on how the politics will affect those at the top, they'll either give this police corporal a medal, or use him as a fall guy; 'a "bad apple" rogue officer who overstepped his bounds.'

Wasn't Bullrich's "protocol" intended to keep the streets open? Am I missing something?
