How could people know he was a delinquent the first time he was elected? He was an average joe from Connecticut pretending to be from Texas whom the people identified with because of his average IQ, why demonize the guy?
His Rasputins and his re-election are another story but I believe that by then the poor guy had lost all control over his life.
He's a humble painter now like other populist leaders in history.
