Argentine Gov't Concerned About U.s./u.k. Debt Levels

Revenge concern, first the US was concerned, now the Argentine govt is concerned. Diplomacy at it's finest and most sophisticated.

I can imagine Capitanich nudging his pals and winking before launching his withering tirade.

Playground stuff, neither side have any interest in constructive engagement. Cameron will have by now gleefully called Barry in the Whitehouse for a good old fashioned bitching session.

Well, the debt as % of GDP is A LOT higher in the UK and in the US. That is a fact, that being said, it's ridiculous to make that statement when you are unable to use your own plane (CFK's air force one) to go anywhere decent because they might not let you take it back until you pay up. Argentina is also unable to borrow but it may have to do, at least partly, because they refuse to do what the establishment wants, which is not necessarily a bad thing by itself, but the way she's doing it she's going to make sure something crashes soon in Argentina.

OK so you mean scale, not fundamentals. In that sense I absolutely agree. It's stupid for Capitanich to compare apples to oranges.

There is a reason for the scale. The US has a diverse economy that's driven by innovation, even though that innovation has drawbacks as well as advantages. Argentina, on the other hand, is an economically stagnant country unwilling to accept that there are limits to what worked briefly after the 2002 meltdown.

Dude, making such a sweeping over-simplification like that could put you into line for a cabinet job here.

The scale of the US economy has dwarfed Argentina's since at least the 1840s and no government is going to change that in a decade or two. If you want to talk about which direction the countries are going in maybe we can have an intelligent debate, but asking why Chaco is not suddenly Connecticut is just braindead: a conversation for rank partizans like Capitanich.

Debate implies that you have thorough and complete understanding.
