Would anyone have done this? Any recommendations?

I'm just starting to search, so far I've got a quote from https://www.assistcard.com/ and also a comparison of quotes from https://www.aseguratuviaje.com/

I've seen some insurers have restrictions on the originating country / country of residence, Venezuela isn't allowed by Travel Nomads, for example, I wonder if this is OFAC's doing again (also makes it difficult to find and compare flights).

It may be best and certainly easiest if your visitors simply accept the insurance offered by their airline. Delta USA offers Allianz, I don't know about others. Cheap all things considered and in the past (extended Allianz Covid experience) I found them responsible and pleasantly helpful.

Probably wrong. If the destination country demands comprehensive coverage.....the airlines do not provide any offers.

Totally hosed this - trying to copy in an Allianz med/dental coverage for a month abroad from USA, but wrecked the input form and can't delete the remainder. Ignore!

OK. I'll type it in. This is what $99 plus tax gets you with Allianz:

Emergency transportation needed following a medical emergency on your trip: $75,000.00
Emergency medical: $50,000.00.
Dental coverage maximum $500.00

I'm sure there is fine print to be studied but I doubt Customs is going to be interested in more than this sort of high-level statement. Also includes coverage for trip interruption & baggage loss. In my one experience, great customer service. Is this "comprehensive coverage"? I think so, but don't really know the standards for such.

No NO NO....first you are 'bending' the wording of the requirement to suit your purpose....worse....it is the airline at departure that will ask for the proof of insurance and who knows what they will say. So it boils down to a roll of the dice. I admit that it MIGHT be possible that a conventional travel policy might slide through....but at this point it is a crap shoot.

Well, it seems to me that if the airline sells you the insurance, which they do in full knowledge of your destination, then there should be no problem. I’ve done Delta/Allianz to BsAs multiple times. They have honored it when called on. New rules? Maybe, but I doubt it. Easy enough to check with the airline I guess.

I sent an email to the Argentine consulate in Los Angeles to inquire about how to obtain the medical travelers insurance. While waiting for their reply, I found https://www.travelinsurance.com/

I have no idea how good they are, but most quotes seem very reasonable. Especially if you set a rather high deductible, like $500 or $1,000. After all, if you are healthy probably you are more interested in complying with the travel requirement rather than getting coverage.

When searching, keep in mind that the new requirement starting on July 1st, is insurance for medical emergencies only. Just medical emergencies, and not a comprehensive travelers insurance covering flight cancellations, lost luggage, evacuations, etc, etc, in addition to the medical part. A comprehensive travelers insurance will of course be more expensive. You can have it if you want, but it's not what is required.

My two cents! :)

I read recently that emergency evacuation from Spain to USA cost someone $100,000 USD
