BA city 1960

Very interesting videos. There is another very old one I saw some time back from when BA was a mere baby and the Rio de la Plata had beaches for swimming.

My first visit to Buenos Aires was in 1962 as a cadet on a Moore McCormack freighter. My most vivid impression, which this video clip confirms, is that all the automobiles were ten to twenty years old. I guess this was the result of high import duties back then.

I love the shot of Plaza de Mayo, with the Casa Rosada in the background, with three Isettas and a Bug parked all in a row- none of which, in 1960, were over 5 years old.

Romantic Buenos Aires - that´s the one.
The narrative that accompanies it is funny and poignant at the same time.

Its amazing what a few years has done.. I loved the fact that there didnt seem to be many buildings over 5 stories back then, or that traffic wasnt so bad, or people everywhere on sidewalks, and there looks to be alot more open spaces and parks, which he disappeared to apt buildings..... those where the days my friends, i thought they would never end !!!! i feel a song coming on

We were sitting here thinking the same.

But now we have a conundrum.Viewing the Braniff advertising film they talk about a brandnew open air swimming pool for 100 000 bathers . My other half has never heard of its existence historicaly or now.
Parque Norte is younger,Balneario Coconor was smaller.

Does anybody know where it was,or even is?

Thanks for these. I was just noticing some archival photos put up at a store and quite interesting how much times change. Happens all over the world of course. Guess it's easy to marvel at the images in a nostalgic sense.
