I went for Banco Galicia, which is convenient since I also use their investment bank, Inviu.

There might be other good banks out there, BBVA was also recommended to me.

I don’t know anything about SS cheques, though.

They are the only authorized bank to accept SS deposits. But, for a dozen reasons do not receive you SS in a bank outside the USA.

I prefer Galicia but have a Santander account as well which many people including myself have problems with. You will likely want a couple of non-bank accounts as well. One you want is Mercado Pago and the other is NX this is because they seem to have the best daily interest rate... Mercado Pago you'll want for the ease of paying everywhere and their daily rate isn't bad but still not as good as NX. I recommend sticking with non-governmental banks.
