My fiance and I found a nice apartment that is affordable for us. It is in the Boedo neighborhood. Is anyone living in Boedo or have experience in there who can tell me about it? The only thing that I am concerned about is safety in this area.

If it matters, my fiance is Argentine so I won't have to speak outside with my awful Spanish should that be an issue.

If you are not close to the highway you should be fine. It is a middle class neighborhood, not a lot of things to do around there, but it is an ok place if you are not close to the highway ( do not walk around there when it is dark either )

It's also not very centric in terms of connection to other parts of the city (Subte, busses), and yes... one side of the freeway (the side closer to almagro) is a nicer part of Boedo than the other, and anything too close to the freeway is not good. Definitely gets a little dodgy walking around at night, but there are some nicer areas too and a few good, authentic restaurants (Pan y Teatro, and Pan y Arte are two sister restaurants in Boedo that I enjoyed). However, there are lots of cheaper and larger apartments/PH's to be found over there. I guess it depends on what you are looking for!
