The next book club meeting/pot luck (really our NOVEMBER meeting) will be TUESDAY, December 1. Come join us in our discussion of the November selection "The Secret Chord" by Pulitzer Prize winning author Geraldine Brooks. Reminiscent of one of our earliest book club picks "The Song of Achilles", this book retells the story of the life of King David. Brooks uses extensive research to capture and describe with rich detail and prose, the tumultuous times of King David, his beliefs, conflicts and loves. As to be expected from Brooks, this isn't your Sunday school version of the great King David. Rather the book unfolds as a cross between a biography, thriller and Greek classic. It has won much critical and reader acclaim.
The book club consists of about an hour of structured book discussion and lots of informal/social discussion before and after. We share a pot luck dinner and wine. The books are all available in the I books and Kindle bookstores. (There are also detailed summaries of the books for free on line)
We are a friendly diverse group. This event is free and held in an apartment in Recoleta. Please RSVP to this thread for contact info and state what dish you'd like to bring.
