Bringing Yerba Mate into Canada

Hi all,

Does anyone know for sure if this is permitted by the Canadian Border Services Agency? I'm just talking about a couple of 500g bags of supermarket mate in a checked bag.

Yerba is legal in Canada so you could take as much as you want across.

Thanks very much. It just occurred to me that I'll be in transit through the USA. Do you know if it will be a problem there?

I always bring yerba mate into the States. It's legal there as well so no problem whatsoever. It may look like drugs, but the officials in charge of catching real drugs probably know the difference between herbal tea and marijuana.

Yerba mate is not only legal in the US, it is also sold throughout the country. Although most often available at Latin American specialty markets, in some states it is available at large chain supermarkets.

Thanks Joe. I found a source in Vancouver for it, but not my brand of course and ridonculously expensive.

Yup, I have seen it in some stores in Vancouver too. Two different brands.
