Can anyone suggest an ATM in Palermo

I've been getting by fine using my debit card. I've only had to show my passport when grocery shopping so far. Haven't sat down at a restaurant yet. Now I need cash to pay a cleaning service and to do laundry.
People have suggested western unions but I only found one out of 20 that had decent reviews. I'm also nervous about got to a western union because I basically don't know any spanish.
I read that going to an atm, that it's possible you can only withdraw less than $20 usd.
Advice please the cleaning people come tomorrow.

I recentely withdrew cash from a BBVA ATM in Belgrano with a foreign debit card and the maximum I could take out was 60k pesos. The fee was about 11k pesos on top of that, not mentionning my bank fee. Not cheap! You can always try different ATMs and decline the withdrawal if you think that the fee is too high. Or best: transfer yourself money!

You need to learn how to use western union, there's a big thread on here about it, there is the main branch downtown on Av Cordoba and Montevideo that always has money in stock. Paying a 30% fee to withdraw pesos cash from an ATM machine is obviously not sustainable

Follow Marshall's advise and go to Western Union. Tons of expats use WU without problems. The ATM situation is ridiculous.

Did you go Jumbo? they're the only one that requires you to show them your paper so far I've encountered.

Use WesternUnion to get cash, much more easy.
The ATMs here are all useless, the best hit I got with ATM was HSBC bank in central for 70k pesos, on top of $15 USD transaction fee.
Don't use ATM unless its an emergency.

i do go to Jumbo. But Dia asked for my passport too and I just came back from a farmacia and they asked for it. My first time at that farmcia I was not asked.

I’ve used Xoom for years, it’s a PayPal company. You can transfer money from your US bank account to Argentina in pesos.
They have competitive rates. You can pick up the cash in pesos at various local sites. The MORE place on Libertad and Santa Fe is very popular. ATM machines are not practical unless you have a local bank account.

Bear in mind that very few people tend to review western unions - it either works and exists or it doesn’t. I’d be turned off by any reviews saying the branch no longer exists but if there’s a review within the last month that’s positive I’d say you can almost certainly count on it working just fine.

I’ve been to plenty of branches and the gist is:
• Queue
• Show the cashier the MTCN number
• They’ll ask for your document/passport so provide it
• They’ll ask you to agree a few slides and then sign on an electronic screen
• They’ll count your cash and give it to you along with your passport

Western union is much smoother than any ATM experience you’ll have.

Also, they deal with plenty of people who barely speak Spanish daily and will tend to expect little Spanish skills depending on the passport you show

Next time if they ask, just use a photo copy. Some donkey cashier in Asian market insist to see it a while ago almost teared my passport bio-page off when he opened it. After that I only keep a copy of my passport in my wallet, so far Jumbo okay with it. But it's rare Dia would ask to see it. Dia would ask you everytime if you have the membership.....
