Hey all,
My friends and I are just finishing a road trip through Argentina (we currently in Ushuaia) and we are looking to sell our 2000 Ford Expedition which has been phenomenal throughout our travels (we havent had a single problem with it). We could sell it down here or when we get back to BA. It comes with tents, sleeping bags, folding chairs, a GPS, basically everything you would need for a road trip. It has Mexican and American plates. We are selling it for $6500 or best offer. Let me know if you're interested. We could provide info from our road trip too if interested.
Thanks!!

Im also interested! Wad it bought in Argentina? I'd love pics too

hmmm...interesting. You think it is worth much more? I got the sense that that was about the market price.

Is the price in US Dollars or Argentina Pesos?

A friend of mine recently bought a Toyota Forerunner from a French couple who bought it in the States, shipped it to Venezuela, and drove it throughout South America before coming to a stop here and wanted to sell it before returning to France.

Deals like these are real things, often enough.

The only things I would caution anyone on buying this: They don't make Ford Explorers here in Argentina. You'll have a hard time getting replacement parts. Also, you'll have to "import" the car into Argentina to legalize it, and the fact that it was imported on a tourist visa and then sold here is going to present some unique problems. the title has to be transferred where it was bought and then the whole legal issue of getting it imported legally will be tough, but doable.

Also, with an Expedition, you may have troubles parking it because it's so big.

Something like this can be a very good deal in some ways - if I had the money I'd seriously consider it, personally. I used to own an Expedition back in the States and I loved it. I'd love to have one here for road trips.

Forget about legalizing this vehicle. It will cost you 4x what you paid for it. AFIP has a 100% import tax on their prescribed value of the vehicle. Also to be eligible for import, you must be a temporary resident who will become permanent in the next few months. It is near impossible to import a vehicle here.

You can still have it here, but only as a temporary import for a fixed number of months. Talk to Aduanas for all the details. Many argentinos has Chile plated vehicles, so this is very real option to have a foreign plated vehicle in Argentina. Just be alert about the requirements and restrictions.

As for parts, it will bankrupt you. There are extremely high import duties on auto parts, like 200% + .

Yeah, that's why I mentioned the part about having money :) I probably should have been more specific, I didn't mean just the money to buy the car itself.

It would be quite a luxury vehicle here. My friend has talked to some import lawyers and they say it can be done...but it will cost quite a bit. Also, some under the table "financing" will need to be done to get it all done to the point where he can have it here actually legal.
