Chai tea?

Has anyone seen it here? I"m not sure if they have it at Starbucks, but i'm looking more for where i can buy it to make at home.

they do have it at starbucks. or you can buy it on the buquebus.
 
I'm confused!!!!! I love chai tea. I lived in India for many years and lived on it. Then when I lived in China, I could still get it! Is chai tea different in other countries???? Cause starbucks is the last place I would consider it. Maybe I'm thinking about something else, cause commercialised starbucks tea could never ever be chai tea for me.

In Barrio Chino they sell the leaves for chai tea - both the indian and chinese versions. It's not cheap, (of course, compared to local tea) but it's ok
 
Yep, Dolly, i meant Indian spiced tea - masala chai. And, yes, Starbucks has it! but I was lookig to make it at home. I completely forgot about China town - thanks for the tip!

I wonder if the imports section in Jumbo has it..
 
I believe Starbucks uses a liquid mix, but it is still pretty delicious despite all the sugar! I always pack enough loose tea from my fav. tea house in Tampa, FL when I come to BA. Have you tried looking in China town? I have seen a few loose teas there. Not sure if they would have it.
 
Try the mercados in Barrio Chino. I'm pretty sure I saw it there.
 
I used to buy a lot of Peet's Masala Chai tea in the US. If it helps, the ingredients listed on the tea box are:

1. Broken Orange Pekoe tea from India, but other black teas may do as well
2. cinnamon = canela
3. ginger = gengibre
4. cardamom = cardamomo
5. cloves = clavos de olor
6. pepper = pimienta

The recipe below pretty much replicates this, but actually require boiling the spices, which extracts more of their essence, rather than just steeping a tea bag - which is of course easier!!

Chai Spice Blend :

2 Tablespoons ground cinnamon
2 Tablespoons ground cardamom
2 Tablespoons dried ginger root
2 Tablespoons dried orange peel
2 Tablespoons dried astragalus root, broken into small pieces
1 Tablespoon whole black peppercorns
1 Tablespoon whole cloves

NB: Ginger root and orange peel can also be used fresh.

When I do my own blends I prefer to use whole cinnamon sticks, and cardamom pods, but I guess that is a matter of preference.
 
Chai means tea.

When we make chai at home, we use regular black tea as they do in India. What gives it a different flavor is a combination of chai masala, mint, and in our case we also use lemongrass. And of course, lots of milk and sugar.

I think I remember seeing chai masala for sale in Chinatown - if not we can lend you some that we brought with us from India to get you started.
