Choosing health care for newcomers

I can also recommend OSDE. I'm happy with it. I particularly like being able to get a house call from the OSDE doctors. Though I think that is on hold during the pandemic. Otherwise every doctor I have wanted to visit accepts it (I have the 310 plan). My wife has it as well and has a doctor she likes at hospital italiano (she paid out of pocket when we first arrived for her first appointment there) and OSDE covers her appointments there. So as people say flexibility is nice.

I never tried house visits with my OSDE 310. Sounds like an interesting option. Do the experts also come home?

Recently during Pandemic , I required a doctor's certificate that "I have no fever or flu like symptoms" and requested for a house doctor. Proved to be impossible. OSDE has a made a app where it seems doctors provide you advice online but I found, the app does not work those OSDE did not believe me. However, I was able to find a OSDE doctor v v close to my house who met me personally and issued me the document. It was v v helpful to me.

OSDE and Swiss Medical are both pretty good from my experience. With Swiss Medical being a little less expensive than OSDE on a comparable health plan.

Hi, can anyone please share the average rates for OSDE and Swiss Medical? I've seen posts from 2010 saying it's around 1000 ARS/mo. I'm guessing it must be double (or triple or more now)?

FWIW, got 10+ years experience with OSDE and SM.

Currently using SM and quite happy with it. OSDE is more expensive and the difference never showed in the service provided.

My mother got sick and eventually passed. She had OSDE 410 plan. She stayed twice at the Otamendi and once at the Diagnostico. Private luxurious large rooms each time. Top notch service.
When she died, OSDE demanded the funeral house services bill, said they would pay X amount according to the Plan. Took their time, misplaced the file twice and at the end of several months payed a lesser amount claiming their policy had changed during that period. They also wrote the check under the wrong name and that gained and extra tour inside their finacial dept. By the time we could finally collect some money we were pissed off at them and due to wasted time and inflation it was almost worthless.

No complaints about SM other than now it has become harder to get an appointment with a specialist.

I believe OSDE and SM are under extreme pressure to maintain standards as they have been capped by the government as not to increase price to hedge against inflation. I am paying same since march and this is unusual as earler they increased amount several times a year.

PS: Something annoying with SM is their co-payement system.
Most times you find out about them at the last, inconvenient, time. While this is revealed to you, they usually also tell you they won't accept cash and their card payement method just went TU.
So, you end up meeting the doctor/specialist/technician very upset and with your BP sky high. All values off scale. Hardly in the mood for a smile.

I'm curious as to what an average individual plan costs in Arg. I currently pay US$1250.00 monthly for an HMO plan in the USA just for myself and US$1000.00 for my husband, plus deductibles and copays. Anyone there in their early 60's that can offer an idea of insurance costs there?

I have Medicus corporate plan with no deductable and no co-payments. I recently asked how much my plan would be for a new account and was told around $120 a month. One advantage of Medicus is that they don’t raise your rate at age 65 like some other plans. They do raise it when you turn 70, I think around 50 percent.

high quality plans for 65 years or older could be 250 -300 usd a month per person

The wife and daughter have Hospital Alemán which is ok if you live somewhere close to recoleta,
Think we might consider changing to OSDE hospital alemán can get very busy.

i have some health insurance provided by the company which is a foreign provider that no one accepts consequently I haven’t seen a doctor for about 10 years.
