Joaquim Almeida is one of the greatest Brazilian actors of all time. This scene alone makes worthwhile an otherwise entirely crappy movie.

i agree it says a lot in a short clip. Brazilian Indians might disagree that the Bandeirantes seduced them with gifts.

Alcohol (cachaca) was very effective. The interior of Brazil was not conquered with guns and submission to force in the majority of the cases. It was done with cunning, bribes and diseases.

In both Spanish and Portuguese America, microbes were far more effective than firearms.

General Roca applied 30mm microbes at the speed of sound.

This type of total genocide approach was somewhat unique to Argentina. Most other countries adopted a policy of subjugation/assimilation towards the natives.
Back in the mid-1800s, while Roca was machine gunning the natives in Argentina, Brazil was being swept by a neo-nativist movement where the natives were seen as virtuous, strong and honorable and people were in encouraged to marry and form families with them.

One of the better treatments of this topic, though I disagree with some of the details, is http://www.pbs.org/gunsgermssteel/
