Joaquim Almeida is one of the greatest Brazilian actors of all time. This scene alone makes worthwhile an otherwise entirely crappy movie.

Alcohol (cachaca) was very effective. The interior of Brazil was not conquered with guns and submission to force in the majority of the cases. It was done with cunning, bribes and diseases.
Brazil was being swept by a neo-nativist movement where the natives were seen as virtuous, strong and honorable and people were in encouraged to marry and form families with them.
