Hi everyone,

I am very conversant with consumer rights in the UK but was wondering if anyone can tell me what rights area available in Argentina.

Specifically my Argentine girlfriend bought a dvd player on the 27th of December which has become defective when playing dvds. We took it back to the shop but they refused to change it saying we should have returned it within 3 days.

I know shops in the UK try it on with rights but I am looking for advice as to what rights do Argentinos have, if any?

Thanks Alun

Yes, you have 3 days from the date of purchase to return it to the store that you purchased it from and if it's faulty they should give an immediate replacement or money back.

After that depending on the guarantee (6 months or 1 year) you will have to take it to the manufacturers service centre. If you still have all the paperwork there should be a list or service centres, if not, if its a 'Philips' for example then there's a list of service centres here: (http://www.centrosde...mercare.com.ar/) if not just google the service centre for the manufacturer....

Just take it along with the original receipt to show it is still within guarantee and they should repair it free of charge.

I currently have a Philips TV and Philips DVD player in for service under the guarantee......and have taken my Philips Home theatre back twice (outside of the guarantee - and paid for repair) perhaps that says something about the Philips brand...but that's topic of conversation for another thread!
