I've searched the archives and can't find anything recently postead about prices of basic stuff and daily purchases. I've a friend travelling next week and I have been away too long to advise her on how much money to take. Can anyone give me some prices for the following:

Coffee and medialunas in a confiteria (not a fancy one)
Supermarket essentials (jar of coffee, pasta, cheese, milk, bread, fruit, yogurt, orange juice, anything else you wish to add)
Entrance to a milonga and a glass of wine and empanada there
A short taxi ride
A steak in a basic restaurant

A short taxi ride could be anywhere from $40 pesos to $70 pesos depending if it's day or night and the traffic. I think the entrance to most milongas is around $40 pesos, but I have no idea how much a glass of wine or empanadas are.

It would help if you let us know how long your friend will be staying in order to calculate how much he or she might need to bring.

I'd recommend to bring as much as you need and plus, and change it little by little as you need it.
If your friend is staying 2 weeks, then it is not worth it to go twice to a cuevas, but that bit is not clear from your post.

Parrillada for $50 pesos per person is a Steal.... Don't want to know the prices at La Cabrera ...!

Prices at la Cabrera $250 to $800 per person (the $250 is for a choripan... )

Thanks for the answers so far. She is staying one month. I am interested in the chino prices as they are different from disco, coto and carrefour, and the online ones tend to be different from the stores anyway.

Depends on the confitería / neighborhood / main avenue or not.
Depends on the supermarket and size of the item and discounts available that day.
Depends on the milonga.
Depends on the time of day you are taking the taxi.
Depends on which cut of meat in which restaurant and neighborhood.

And finally, depends on the chino. They all set their own prices and different items are different prices in different chinos!!

Most milongas range from 40- 70 now (canning with an orchestra) Empanadas at milongas 10-12 glass of wine 30? but why buy just one glass... get a bottle and share... and take any left over home. you come out better that way.

taxi from centro to palermo 50- 75 depending on the time of day and traffic.

I would tell her to bring 500 she probably won't spend half of it.. unless she goes shoe shopping.

I would avoid the Chinos as they are more expensive for most items. In an emergency , I buy there , but it is only a 1/2 block away.
