Declaring Cash At Customs In Brazil--Is It Ok?

Bitcoin is one way to legally avoid the US gov't reporting rules.

Is bitcoin easily redeemable in Argentina? How about Brazil?

Guys just as a reminder, the conversation got a bit sidetracked, but I'm not really interested in US customs, and was using it as an example.

I'm curious if anyone has experience declaring cash over the limit when entering Brazil and/or Argentina and what to expect if you do.

I have used bitcoin and I still have some. The truth is it is still not that easy to buy, spend, or sell. It's not that hard, but it's still hard enough to keep lots of people from using it. I've used it to pay for a hotel room in Berlin, and at a bar there called Room77. There's a decent Bitcoin community in Buenos Aires, and there are people here who will buy or sell it for cash (I don't know what kind of volume they can handle). There's a coffee shop called BitCoffee (on Uruguay and Marcelo T de Alvear) where you can pay with bitcoin, and there's a bar in Palermo called RöT that takes it.

Thanks camel. This isn't sidetracking the thread as I see it as an alternative way to carry cash, which wouldn't be targeted by potentially corrupt or bureaucratic customs officials.
When you say it's redeemable in cash in Buenos Aires, do you mean pesos or dollars? Also do you know if it's redeemable in Uruguay (the country)? And how complicated is it to sell bitcoin for cash there? Finally, I know you said you don't know what volume they can handle, but have any idea on order of magnitude more or less? Would they be limited to 1 bitcoin, half a bitcoin, or can they handle 10 bitcoin, etc.?
