A letter from Bernie:

For many months I have been traveling from coast to coast across our country, and have had the opportunity to meet with thousands of good, hard-working, and remarkable people. Like you and me, they are deeply concerned about the future of our country.

They wonder why they are working longer hours for lower wages. They worry about whether their kids will be able to afford college or get decent jobs. They fear that they may not have the savings to retire with dignity and security.

The challenges facing our country are enormous. That's why I am running to become the next President of the United States.

It's not just that, for forty years, the middle class has been disappearing. It's that 99% of all new income is going to the top 1%, and the grotesque level of wealth and income inequality today is worse than at any time since the late 1920s. The people at the top are grabbing all the new wealth and income for themselves, and the rest of America is being squeezed and left behind.

The disastrous decisions of the Supreme Court in the Citizens United case and in other related decisions are undermining the very foundations of American democracy, as billionaires rig the system by using their Super PACs to buy politicians and elections.

And the peril of global climate change, with catastrophic consequences, is the central challenge of our times and our planet.

The middle class in America is at a tipping point. It will not last another generation if we don't boldly change course now.

After a year of travel, discussion and dialogue, I have decided to be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President. But let's be clear. This campaign is not about Bernie Sanders. It's about a grassroots movement of Americans standing up and saying: "Enough is enough. This country and our government belong to all of us, not just a handful of billionaires."

A successful national campaign is a massive undertaking, especially when we will be heavily outspent. It will require the active participation of millions of Americans in every community in our country. In fact, it will require nothing less than a political revolution that combats the demoralization and alienation of so many of our people from the political process.

Let me be very honest. It may be too late to stop the billionaire class from trying to buy the Presidency and Congress. The forces of greed already may be too powerful.

But we owe it to our children and grandchildren to try. We owe it to them to make the fight and, through the power of our numbers, turn back this assault on the foundation of our democracy and our future.

We are at a moment of truth. We need to face up to the reality of where we are as a nation, and we need a mass movement of people to fight for change.

I believe America is ready for a new path to the future.

Senator Bernie Sanders

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have never contributed to a political campaign until I heard Bernie Sanders.

I want to meet other supporters of Bernie Sanders in Buenos Aires.

If the situation doesn't change, we will see growing numbers of Americans moving abroad and renouncing their US citizenship.

Democrats Abroad Argentina is no longer an active organization in Buenos Aires, so an informal group is better than doing nothing.

Let me know if you're interested.

Interesting what he says......... inequality is the illness of our time. World wide.

I have some exciting news, Janis.

More people have contributed to our campaign than to any other candidate running for president, Democrat or Republican.

That is truly remarkable, and I am humbled by this support. But I will be frank: it may not matter in the end unless we get organized now.

On the evening of July 29, we will kick off building the organization that will take back our country from the billionaire class — and I’m going to speak directly by video to this unprecedented gathering.

People will gather at more than 1,000 homes, restaurants, and other locations across the country for our first ever organizing meeting. However, there isn't yet an event happening near you.

Can you step up for our campaign and host an organizing meeting? Just post your home as a location and yourself as a host, and we will invite the Bernie supporters in your area who are looking for a way to get connected.

At our organizing meetings, you'll have the opportunity to meet other supporters in your area, talk about why you support our campaign, and then tune in to a live broadcast where we will discuss how we take the next step together to build the organization that will change our country.

What we are building together is both unprecedented and critically important to our future. While other candidates may have more money, we have already proven that we have more people — now let's show them what happens when the people unite.

Sign up to host an organizing meeting for our campaign on July 29.

Thank you.

Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders is Donald Trumps only path to the White House and that is scary as shit.

It's scary as shit that a centrist guy in world terms can be far to left-wing for the yanks.
It's about names. If he didn't call himself a socialist he wouldn't have such a problem.

The problem I have with Bernie Sanders, other than his general unelectability which could hand the presidency to a complete egomaniacal nutcase, is that his left wing social positions are countered by a disturbingly conservative nationalist tinge to his take on foreign policy.

Janis,

Today's minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is a starvation wage. We need to raise that to a living wage, because anyone who works 40 hours a week shouldn't live in poverty.

Yesterday I introduced a bill in Congress to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Add your name to say you support a $15 minimum wage.

The simple truth is that working people cannot survive on $7.25 an hour. Yet more than 30 million people work every day for a minimum wage that is totally inadequate to provide for their families.

Some of those folks shared with our campaign what a living wage would mean for them, and I am honored to share some of their stories with you:

"I could afford to go back to work if minimum wage was $15. It costs my family less for me to stay home than to pay childcare and transportation costs to work for $9.50/hr." - Elizabeth in Ohio

"A $15 minimum wage would mean that my daughter and I could finally stop living paycheck to paycheck." - Jamie in California

"It would make me happy to know the people serving me in restaurants and working in other businesses I patronize are being paid at a higher level that may help them get ahead." - Patricia in Indiana

"As a single mother of two, a $15 minimum wage would mean being able to sleep at night instead of spending countless sleepless hours worrying about how I'm going to keep a roof over my childrens' heads and food on the table...and maybe even be able to keep more than $5 in my savings account." - Nichole in California

"I could pay my bills, get health insurance, save for a car, and groceries...I can barely afford bills at the moment and once the bills are paid, no money is left over for anything else." - Hilary in Florida

"Right now I am making $9.50 an hour. Unfortunately, this is the highest paying job I have ever had and it still is not enough to help me become stable. I was forced to move back in with my mother, which is causing her stress as well because she has to still take care of me after she has already raised 8 children. I feel like a burden and that I should be out on my own, but I'm not. I would be so happy and so content if the minimum wage was raised to $15 in all 50 states! It would mean a new beginning to my life as well as a good start to my mother worrying less." - Abbigail in Wisconsin

Add your name to support a $15 minimum wage.

"A $15 minimum wage would mean that my daughter and I could finally stop living paycheck to paycheck." - Jamie in California

"As a small business owner, I believe I would benefit from a larger number of Americans feeling secure in their homes and knowing that they will have enough food for their families. I want to live in a country where we all make enough money to meet not just our basic subsistence needs, but also our need for happiness." - Lauren in Iowa

"I could stop living paycheck to paycheck!" - Sally in South Carolina

"I currently work two jobs and go to college full time and I can't afford my own home. I have medical bills that I pay monthly that don't leave me with enough to get by. If the minimum wage were to be raised to $15 an hour, I would not have to work nights and days just to make ends meet. I have a girlfriend, we would like to start a family, but because of finances, this is out of the question." - Eric in Oklahoma

"It would make my life a hell of a lot better." - Sophia in Louisiana

I hope that it is clear how dire it is for millions of people working full time yet living in poverty. We have a moral obligation to help them.

Sign your name next to mine to endorse a $15 minimum wage.

In solidarity,

Bernie

Janis -

As I travel across the country, I am constantly struck by the level of enthusiasm and engagement there is for the political process. Everywhere I go, from Portland, Maine to Phoenix, Arizona, Americans are ready to discuss the critical issues facing our country. And this Wednesday night, July 29th, over 70,000 individuals have signed up to attend organizing meetings in their communities.

It is clear to me that people are taking this primary very seriously, and as an early supporter of our campaign, you have a unique role to play in our success going forward.

In that light, I wanted to make sure that you saw our new five minute video about the issues driving our campaign.

Let us never forget: This country belongs to all of us, not just a handful of billionaires.

Sincerely,

Senator Bernie Sanders

Janis,

Bernie will be making a live stream audio/video appearance that will be streamed via YouTube at approximately 7:30pm Eastern time and again at 7:30 pm Pacific time on July 29th 2015.

The video will last approximately a half hour, and will be streamed at the following address:

When we started our campaign together, much of the corporate-owned media wrote us off. They said we had no chance, that we couldn’t win, that victory was impossible.

Well, I am here to tell you, Janis, it’s not impossible: it’s happening.

Last night, we estimate that 100,000 supporters attended more than 3,500 organizing meetings in all fifty states across the country. It was a historic evening — the largest campaign gathering of this election by a huge margin. And at every event, people signed up to volunteer and committed themselves to building a movement capable of winning an election and reclaiming our democracy from the billionaire class.

In American politics, there are two primary sources of power: organized people, and organized money. Last night proved that we have the people and that we’re well organized.

And so far, we’ve received over 500,000 individual contributions for an average gift of $33.26. But we can’t stop now.

Your $3 contribution today will help us continue to build a movement powerful enough to defeat a billionaire class that has already bought Congress, and now has its sights set on the White House.

July 29 Organizing Meetings

When the people stand together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

Not only can we win a Democratic primary and general election, but we can ensure that no one who works a full-time job lives in poverty. We can provide education as a right for all Americans, not just wealthy families. We can guarantee health care as a right, not a privilege, in this country.

Nothing significant in this country happens in terms of change unless a strong grassroots movement takes place.

That’s what we’re building together, and people should not underestimate us.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders
