There’s just such a juxtaposition between the cultured-looking journalist and the plate of, frankly, child’s food.
The guy from the first place seems almost bemused that she is interviewing him and tracing the origen of this fascinating and unique product. His biggest seller? Why the ham and cheese, of course.
(I remember in the late 80s seeing the ham and cheese version called the "Carlitos". I've not come across that name more recently. According to AI, it's a common name in Rosario for the sandwich, so perhaps the ones I remember were sold here by expat Rosariños.)

Don't knock it! There was a time back in the UK when this would have seemed positively adventurous. I remember, many years ago while visiting the Netherlands discovering that, unlike the British cheese sandwich or the British ham sandwich, the Dutch were doing crazy things like putting ham AND cheese together between the same pieces of bread! Those Dutch,eh? They just throw all their cares to the wind!
