Does anyone else feel there might be a peso collapse this year?

May sound repetitive but if you want prices to go Down buy only the essentials and eat home .

We spent years bragging about how cheap local prices were, now we'll spend the next years ? bitching about the exorbitant local prices. It's a rollercoaster ...

Buying only the essentials and eating at home is great advice. It will undoubtedly reduce "your" expenses, but, unless a huge amount (if not the vast majority) of the populace start doing this, I don't think that prices will stop increasing or "go down" by a significant (if any) amount. Most restaurants, however, would go out of business and no new ones would open.

Fortunately, for those in the restaurant business, this is unlikely to happen. Unfortunately, for those who patronize the restaurants, in the long run they will continue to pay ever increasing prices for the stuff they consume in them, and also, in most cases, with one notable exception, in the long run, they will pay an even greater "price" for the impact on their health and well being.

PS: Although eating at home will result in spending less for food, depending on what they cook and eat, the finincial advantage may be offset by poor (unhealthy) choices of how they cook and what foods they eat.

Even weight loss achieved by cooking and eating at home, though more economical, may not be as beneficial to their well being as they may believe. Making pasta or home baking bread to consume are just two examples. regardless of the "quality" of the ingredientes.

The total price for two people was 154.300 pesos not including tip. Entrana entera, ojo de bife, proveleta, and a salad (lettuce, cherry tomato, black olives and heart of palm). Two bottles of water, a Coca Cola, and a small coffee. The Entrana itself was about 65.000 pesos. So out the door about $145 USD paid on a USA amex card at effective FX rate of 1207.

I wouldn't classify it as "insane", but it's certainly not a discount or a good deal for a high end meal compared to other places around the world. I co own a high end steak restaurant in an expensive area of the USA and we serve imported grass fed Argentine beef. A rib eye is $47 and a skirt steak is $38, with two side dishes (Mirasol is a la carte of course ) plus sales tax and an expected 20% tip. Both cuts of the exported Argentine beef I serve are superior to what was served at Mirasol last night (not a surprise since in general all the best beef in Argentina is exported).

At the end of Peron's regime, all wheat and white flour were exported. The locals had to survive on sickly-looking grey bread for over two years. Yajjjjj.....!

Same thing is happening now. I tried to buy plants for my yard, and was dismayed at the poor selection. The nursery people explained that the best specimens are being exported, so they only get the leftovers.

it's insane that beef prices here in restaurantes are higher than usa or Australia where wages are at least 5 times higher . in the san Telmo Market a very basic bife de chorizo no side dishes no sauce is around 35 000 pesos in most simple parrillas . in 2003 this meal was 5 dollars maximum . have wages gone up 6 times since then ?

Comparing what things cost in USD in 2003 to 2025 is not apples to apples as the USD has lost significant purchasing power everywhere around the world including in the USA and in Argentina. It's no secret that the standard of living and real wages in Argentina for the average person has been falling steadily over at the least the last 15 years.

Why then are brazilian steakhouses so much cheaper up to three times cheaper in some cases if the dollar is losing value?
Brazilian steakhouses are cheaper in 2025 than in 2003 when measures in USD ? That is absolutely not the case as Brasil has averaged at least 6% inflation annually in that time span so a $10 USD steak in 2003 (R$3-USD) would cost at least $27 USD today (R$5.67-USD).
