It's remarkable that even something as innocuous as a song contest has become a microcosm of the conflicts and tensions that afflict our world and besiege us every day. The following links stretching from 2008 until now and from the Middle East to Europe to the USA trace Arabic-speaking countries' memberships in the same broadcasting association which Israel belongs to, and the positions and statements taken by some of our leaders and top politicians on admittance or not of Palestine into the Eurovision Song Contest.

If or since this entertainment is so removed from the spectrum of which music is meaningful or bearable that one can feel like an idiot or embarrassed for actually watching it, why has who can perform in it or not and which administrations 'should' or 'should not' be represented in this regional contest matter to so many of our leaders (the Arab states, some African countries, Israel, Palestine, Denmark and the US being some) to whom we pay a fortune to work on resolving the really important things that affect our lives and the world?
It's way more uplifting to watch the incredible movement and styling of the white-haired male dancer with the several accompanying last night's Danish song entry than to watch the go-nowhere posturing of our overpaid politicians.
