Carpenter ants can be huge problem by eating wood structure in your home.
I had a problem sourcing the ant trail once, try leaving a plate of honey out in your patio (at least away from the kitchen and living room) this should bring them in enough numbers to accurately follow the trail.
In my case they came from the skirting and a few cracks in my habitacion de servicio. I sprayed poison into the cracks then bunged all the holes up with silicone sealant. I haven't seen an ant in the house since.
