I'm travelling to London and then Amsterdam next week. What's the best way to get across the Channel these days? EasyJet has tickets from Gatwick to Amsterdam for 49 pounds each way. Are there better alternatives? Is the train/boat option still viable?

After Amsterdam I have about two weeks free to float about Europe before heading back to lovely BsAs. Any suggestions as to where I should go? I've seen almost all of the major capitals; something offbeat or outdoors would be great.

Thanks for the help! Frank

London - Amsterdam, by plane (especially if easy jet is so cheap).

The fast train does not go to Amsterdam yet (London-Brussels is fast, then change train to antwerp (normal) to get a fast train to Amsterdam, would take you ages). Plus it is quite espensive.

I am not sure about a ferry, but you will certainly need a train to Dover so that would probably not be a lot cheaper then easy jet, and it will also take you ages...

good luck!

ps an 'offbeat city' would be Ghent in Belgium. That is my home town and certainly the most beautifull in Belgium.:D The 'gentse feesten' (ghent festivities) are not to be missed.
