Food Review of Sugar and Spice cookie and brownie

Point taken. If your products are as good as your customer care, they must be very good indeed. Best of luck.

I've had the Sugar & Spice chocolate chip cookies and I thought they were great. Nice, thin and crispy with lots of chocolate, just like the ones my mom makes! :) Just wanted to put my 2 cents in so that people know either it's a difference in taste or the previous poster had a bad batch.

Mr. Almeida, I am the Grazie who posted the review. Please understand that what I was trying to do in this forum was to respond to your original post, where you introduced your self and your line of cookies. No malice was intended there. What irked me was the fact that my original post here in this forum was deleted and obliterated all together. What I wanted to show was customer reaction and review to a product that is out there in the market. I was working on a letter/email to you when your response showed up in here, so you saved me from having to send you another.
I have the lot number (brownie L 3098 exp. date Oct 2009) for the oatmeal raisin L 3050 exp date Feb 2010) here and I got them at Jumbo in Escobar.

If the original post was not deleted - you would have read in there that I liked and praised the very nice packaging and that there were a good number of walnuts in the brownie and that I was still going to try you other lines of cookies. But again - why and who deleted my post is a mystery and as a matter of fact a form of censoring. But anyhoo...I just wanted you to know that when I re-posted I just took the good stuff out because, honestly, I was irked by the deletion, and I knew you will be informed of my post.

I will keep the receipt and the 2 boxes in my car and one day will drop it off there. Thank you once again for your response.

Sincerely,
Grazie

It's always very easy to criticise. Even the most uninformed person can find faults in any product.

But respect has to be given to those people who go out there and create things, whether it be artists, designers or cookie makers. If a product is good, great, but if it isn't perhaps it would be good to give direct feedback in an open and honest way. The creator will often thank you for the feedback and work hard to put things right. Personally I think it a little unfair to go public with something that may or may not be a true representation of the product as a whole.

Maybe the problem lies with the packaging or distribution of the cookies rather than the product itself. Maybe S&S need to control this better or reduce the outlets to specialist shops. Perhaps work on the packaging?

As the cookies are relatively expensive, they need to be perfect every time. Maybe looking at batch size would be useful. It is better for the cookies to sell out in perfect condition than to have a few packets of dried cookies laying on shelves.....it's these ones that will cause dissatisfaction and lead to unhappy customers.

A hard lesson learned I think.

I look forward to trying one of these cookies and I'll be sure let them know what I think, positive or not.

I think this goes argument goes beyond Sugar and Spice, which I'm sure produce great food (though clearly not to everyone's taste). I see two points:

1. deleting posts should only be done for when they are are obscene, threatening or libellous.

2. In business you are going to get criticism, both fair and unfair - it shouldn't be taken personally. Restaurant, theatre and film critics have been in business (and unpopular) for years; I don't think they should be banned.

People review shops, restaurants, all kinds of products all the time. Do they need to go directly to the owner every time? Personally, I don't think so.

I also don't think it's "unfair" to mention price. I don't have a problem with high priced cookies/specialty products/shops/food/restaurants, etc. There certainly is a place for them. Clearly these have been priced in the "premium" cookie category. Being a "gourmet" product means the standards and expectations are higher. I agree with Rich and Harry on this point.

Perhaps I will try the ones sold at the shop. I would imagine they are the freshest of all.

Also, I hope that Pepperidge Farm is not really the bench mark for gourmet cookies.

Mr. Almeida justified his prices by comparing Sugar and Spice to Pepperidge Farm, a high quality American manufacturer of cookies which has fairly recently entered the Argentine market. Without getting into a quality comparison, I'd like to ask Mr. Almeida how much import taxes are for Peperidge Farm? International transportation, middlemen and import taxes must be substantial. Sugar and Spice do not have to deal with this. This being the case I don't understand how Mr. Almeida can compare his prices with those of Pepperidge Farm.

Off the top of my head I can assure you that hiring employees in Argentina is way more expensive than in the US...

Thank you for allowing me to post my second review, very much obliged.
What I wanted to add was that the biscotti of Sugar and Spice that I got from the same Jumbo were better. I made sure to buy one package right after the stock boy were placing them on the shelves = fresh, I thought!. I like the outer lime green-theme packaging (but with still the same plastic seal inside). I hope there is a QA followup on the boxes that are on the shelves in Jumbo, clearly some of the Sugar and Spice cookies/brownies that are on the shelves are old and very unappealing.
Re: the price difference between Pepperidge Farm (PF) and Sugar and Spice cookies is between one peso to 2 pesos (no more!) for the same weight/size. I bought the PF Milano (with orange rind) and plain Milano, Brussels and Chessman cookies for 13.99 Arg pesos each at COTO. Sugar and Spice cookies and brownie prices were mentioned before (@ 12,45 ~ 12,10).
Thank you again.
