For Coronavirus junkies

South Korea, 20k tests a day, for weeks now, almost a month.

South Korea did extremely well with testing. And when a lot of people tested, death rate is 0.6% (or 0.9% according to other sources).

... WHO testing kits and related lab procedures / recepie for cheap scalable production of existing tests, were turned down by some governents.

WHO-recommended testing is not cheap and scalable. It requires a PCR machine and availability is limited.

Yes, they did extremely well. They are a good example to us all.

It's cheap and scalable; as in relatively, for governments. And far more so that waiting for these new tests to be developed in house by various farma, who should have been immediately tasked to produce the available tests weeks ago by emergency legislation.

By now we could have scaled up capacity massively in the UK and USA, this would have allowed for a much better chance at containment and curve flattning.

Argentina I have more patience for as the capacity and infrastructure already has so many more systemic and structural issues than the USA and UK.

A compendium of current active research and trials for anti-viral treatments and vaccines.
There is still no approved antiviral or specific SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. All of these antiviral and vaccine proposals are in the experimental phase. Some will not work, but the chances of finding one that will are high.

For anyone that wants to really nerd out on the numbers and growth of the virus in Argentina - there's this shared spreadsheet tracking the data (which might even be more complete than the government's numbers).

On the efficacy of wearing masks or scarves from an article in the NY Times...
"When researchers conducted systematic review of a variety of interventions used during the SARS outbreak in 2003, they found that washing hands more than 10 times daily was 55 percent effective in stopping virus transmission, while wearing a mask was actually more effective — at about 68 percent. Wearing gloves offered about the same amount of protection as frequent hand-washing, and combining all measures — hand-washing, masks, gloves and a protective gown — increased the intervention effectiveness to 91 percent."

The only reason they were discouraging people from wearing masks is that they needed them for healthcare workers.

Our leaders felt that we were children and wouldn't understand that nuance, so instead they told us that masks were ineffective.
