This sounds like fun. But the $700 price tag per night sounds ridiculous. (unless it's in pesos)

The festival is a blast and well worth going to if you've never been. Easy to book yourself and while hotels will be more expensive than normal, nowhere near the prices in the article. You do need to book far in advance though.

Anything horse related tends to be expensive, anywhere in the world. The upkeep and training of horses is very expensive. When I was in my 20s, 3 of my friends and I all chipped in and bought a small boat which was fun, but sure burned through a lot of money every month. Some of my other friends had horses which actually cost more to maintain on a monthly basis than our boat. Another example was that show "Opera Pampa" which I went to see at La Rural a couple of years ago. It's the history of Argentina told through a horse show, it included and asado. The cost was $120 USD per person and at that time any other show at a Theater on Av. Corrientes was $120 pesos.
