Does anyone see a private doctor outside of a big hospital or clinic who they could recommend?

what area of medicine?
That's the question... the concept of a GP, or "medico de cabecera" as a gateway to the health system doesn't seem to exist here in Argentina, at least as far as I can see. You need to find a doctor in the area you're interested in. The insurance companies maintain registers of those doctors who work with them, for example.

Medico Clinico is what you're looking for but they don't seem to be used in the same way as GP's in the UK for instance.

If you have private health care you just get an appointment with the area of expertise that you require.

No idea how GP's operate in the UK . In Argentina for a first appointment you see a Clinico , that will refer you to a specialist. If needed.

In the UK they're the people who stop you seeing anyone important enough to treat you.
Aka "gateway" or "gatekeeper". Same in Ireland, and also in some other EU countries (definitely Germany, for example, where you have your "Hausarzt"). They generally know enough to treat less serious ailments and prescribe medicines, and they refer more serious cases to specialists. The concept doesn't seem to exist here, just find a specialist and book an appointment.

Holy crap. The poor guy/girl wants a referral and the question: what’s bothering you? elicits an exegesis on the structuring and weaknesses of the health care systems of Argentina and most of Western Europe. ventanilla what’s bothering you? Everybody else: you have too much time on your hands.
