On the other hand you must admit that the phrasing on your post tends to be a little ambiguous to say at least, but as it's the case they should have request some clarification before jumping to conclusions, one did the rest did not....burning you at the stack.

It would have been less ambiguous to just say "I'm trying to enlarge the circle of my friends"

[/quote}If you are spending any real amount of time in Recoleta and want to meet people, try joining some clubs. It is the aristocratic barrio and hosts a wealth of private members clubs, always happy to host a foreigner. Do not let the words Syrian diners club or Jewish Orthodox society put you off, they are usually non discerning and good for socialising.[/quote]

So how does one go about finding the Clubs and the connection to join up?
I've been here 10 months and am tired of my work contacts (all too young). I am 50-something and just looking for a fun place to hang, no meat mkts. Want to find my 'neighborhood hang-out' :) Social Clubs remind me of the North End in Boston. Thanks in advance for your help.

This is a city with a huge cultural life. You can search at Municipalidad de Buenos Aires/Cultura. This coming week is the inscription to thousands of workshops around town. Or you may attend the cultural activities listed in La Nacion or Pagina 12. Malba, Centro Cultural Recoleta, Centro Cultural Borges or Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas are other options.

i dont know in which area do you live, but in many areas around town there are social clubs where locals meet on a weekly basis.
