My partner and I have been living here for 4+ months and thinking about making a permanent home here. Of course, we all know about Recoleta and the Palermos but how would you rate some of the other nice barrios to consider living in and possibly investing in real estate.

I guess that you could walk around Belgrano or Caballito and see if you like them.
I live in Paternal..it is super close to Palermo (25ish blocks from Palermo Soho area) and it is a quiet neibourghood, not that comercial and not that fancy. Therefore, much less expensive and still near from Palermo and other places.

I´ve heard Villa Urquiza is nice, but i´ve never been there..

I guess you will need to walk around a lot and then see which places you liked the most :)

I thought their last album was rubbish

As long as I get to pick out the band members with the cutest and the hottest Buenos Aires has to offer!

Almost all the tourists go to Recoleta, Palermo and Belgrano. Those are the best to invest and live. San Telmo and dowtown, close to Obelisco, just to invest. Travel agencies, temporary rent business, as well as tourist guides and realtors recommend those. There is an old saying of the grandparents in this country: The only good investment is Bricks!. (historically Banks were not , and are not trusted for that purpose)
Good luck!

Caballito (or Primera Junta, as it is called too) is nice but crowded and just as expensive as Belgrano.
One place to look is the Versalles area. It is located near the Velez Sarfield Football Club. It is quiet and virtually crime-free, and no villas nearby. Another place is Colegiales, near Belgrano.Good luck

PM me if you want to know about Belgrano or surrounding neighborhoods like Coghlan, Belgrano R, Villa Urquiza, Saavedra, Nuñez or Colegiales. It's my side of town, where I lived all my life. I don't think I'm qualified to give you advice on real estate, though, but I could give you pros and cons in general if you tell me more about your needs.

Villa Urquiza is a nice neighborhood, lots of housing options and great transportation to everywhere. However it´s mostly families and at night there is nothing to do I mean nothing, not a bookstore, movie theater, open. There are some nice restaurants, but definitely geared towards families or older couples going out to dinner.

Palermo and Recoleta are going to be more expensive when it comes to rent, groceries and restaurants in the area. Caballito is nice, it is more affordable but it is also in the middle of the city and the air quality is horrible.

Villa Urquiza is nice and it is fairly quiet. It is a community mostly of older people. Transportation can be hard from here with no subway and only a few bus lines. There is also not much to do here.

Nuñez and Belgrano are nice. They are in the wealthier northern side of the city but they are crowded and have busy commercial areas. But transportation is easy with a lot of buses and the D line. Air quality is much better than most of the city.
