Not the news I was hoping for as I'm seemingly stalled out in the process of getting from precaria to temporary visa rentista. Sounds like they want their own version of ICE?

"The government is finalizing the technical details to formalize the creation of a new immigration agency that will include a police force with detention powers at points of entry into Argentina. The national government aims for this agency to operate alongside the Airport Security Police (PSA) without overlapping their functions."

"the aim is to transform the agency—which currently has an administrative profile—into a structure with its own operational capacity, so that it can carry out the expulsion of immigrants with alerts, records, and irregularities ."

So I guess it doesn't impact those of us 'in process', but combined with the May decree, it seems they're hinting at get tougher on overstays.

this sounds like what trump has been doing in the USA- not streamlining things, not improving customer service, but, firing employees, cutting budgets, and increasing the workload in pointless "security" ways.
Argentina does not have a problem with lack of detention centers for the many international criminals who are always sneaking in and trying to go to UBA for free.
Instead, its problems have to do with making it difficult for tourists to come and spend money, foreign buyers to export products, and expats to bring money here and spend it on real estate and services.

This is textbook copycat move.
