If you are dealing with this yourself, it may be a good idea to separate valuable items that you want to keep. Then box or bag the rest and call Salvation Army. They will come and pick up everything. I have used them a bunch of times, very reliable.

When I moved to BA from NYC I used Andreani to do the moving of some of my things. They were very helpful and I didn't have any problems with them. I didn't even have to go to the customs house to answer questions. Highly recommended.

I would take the dogs, no matter what. Even with dementia, the loss of her longtime life-companions may prove devastating to her.
