Can anyone recommend any hotel in Montevideo. I'm going there next week for a long weekend.

Prefareble close to the beach.

I've spent a bit of time in Montevideo as I keep my finances over there which took some time setting up. Try this hotel "Hotel Embajador - Reserva" <[email protected]>. It's a nice comfortable hotel very close to El Centro. They have a newer edition in the back that has MUCH nicer and VERY comfortable rooms. Several years ago it was $50 U.S. per night.

Very nice and courteous staff.

Not close to the beach but downtown and about half of what you'll pay for an upscale near river/beach hotel

close to the beach is either pocitos/buceo or carrasco. You don't wan't carrasco.
cala di volpe
pocitos plaza,
tryp,
sheraton if you can afford it,

centro isn't bad either and has a lot more affordable options

avoid tres cruces if you can, it's like the real centro

Sheraton is OK but for a much lower price the Four Points by Sheraton is a much better value and also quite nice in its own right.
