Hey everyone -- I'm an ESL teacher, two years out in Korea, where getting a university job isn't all that difficult and is generally more lucrative than standard primary-high school teaching.

Wondering if that situation is at all similar out in Buenos Aires, or by extension Argentina or even South America? How attainable is an English-teaching job at uni level? Currently in "weighting options" mode and any advice is really appreciated.

Short answer: very difficult. Also teaching English here does not pay well in general.

Reverse question/Hint: How willing are you to work for free and have to spend your own money to be able to do it?

The way languages are taught here is different than in the US (no clue about other English-speaking countries). While there are languages institutes associated with the University of Buenos Aires, for example, they aren't really the same as what would be considered a "university-level language professor." Also, as Montauk mentions, they don't pay very well, so you would be looking for private lessons to actually pay the bills.
