Hi,

how do you find students for private lessons? Or do you only teach at language schools?

Will assume you want to teach English. If that is correct, then advertising on this forum & on Craig's List may be a good start. If you are from the UK that would be a plus as most here prefer teachers from there.

This thread would be a good place to start with what kind of lessons you are offering. What are the prices? Whats your gender, ethnicity etc.

I am always looking for teachers to teach me anything.

My wife was teaching private english lessons for a time. It seemed that she had the best results just from putting up signs around the neighborhood, at kioskos, businesses friendly to putting up a flyer, etc. She tried some newspaper ads too, with almost 0 results. Her clientele were mainly kids having trouble in their public school English classes, and needing some help, especially last minute help before exam time unfortunately. If it were me I'd try to get cozy with some public school English teachers and offer them and my current students a cash gift for new students. I'd also recommend a pricing scheme that encouraged longer term - such as paying by the month, charging for no-shows, and charging higher for that crazy last-minute help-me-with-my-exam-it's-tomorrow thing.

Recently, I was looking for a teacher to teach me something. Any of the teachers, who quoted me a pricing scheme as listed above, I avoided them by at least 1000 m or more!

Hi,

I mainly posted this question as I am doing a research around how people actually advertise themselves and what are the teachers' needs in terms of getting more students. Thank you for your response EricLovesBA. It is actually something I heard from other teachers too - long term payments, no shows etc. I am currently in a development stage of the product so any feedback is most welcome.
