Persistence and hard work finally pays off for tango dancers!
In a night full of emotion and artistic skill, dancers
Nicolás Schell and
Nair Schinca were consecrated this Wednesday as the
winning couple of the
Stage Tango category in the grand final of the
Festival and World Tango 2026, which was played this Thursday at the Gran Rex Theater in Buenos Aires.
With a version of Tango Bardo of the classic "
Emancipation", the champion duo, originally from the Buenos Aires town of
Merlo, brought to the stage a proposal of passionate choreography, emotional and full of wonderful technical resources, which earned ovations from the public and the jury.
"
We are in shock, happy. The truth is that
we had decided that it was our last year because we had already been participating a lot, so
this merit came to us like a bun," Schell said in dialogue with
Página|12. The couple has been participating in the World Cup since 2011 and came to occupy the place of runner-up of Tango Escenario in 2013.
“It's a lot of work. The costumes, the choreographies, the rehearsals, the rooms. Everything changes from one year to the next," Schinca added to this media and remarked that every year they seek to present "
different proposals."
"Sometimes we take the choreography to the dynamic, others a little more to the virtuoso. This year
we decided that the closure will be a little more felt, from another side totally different from what we had presented last year," explained the dancer.
"
It was a very difficult final, from the semifinal it seemed like a final. There were many very good proposals, very high artistic, scenic, aesthetic level. It was fun to share with such talented colleagues. Somehow it drove us. When you have artists next to you who go to the maximum and have such a high level of commitment to dance tango, it elevates you.
Tango is our life,
for everyone," concluded the world champion.
In that sense, his partner added: "What I think changed this year may have to do with intention and maturity.
We decided to vindicate romance, tenderness, and give special emphasis to a deep hug. That sometimes scarce in these times, right? In the times of TikTok and Instagram."
