How to hire workmen when you don't know the exact time?

So I have 16 boxes of tiles delivered tomorrow between 9 am and noon, and just found out the delivery guys don't touch the boxes... I need to hire some big dudes to take them off the truck and up a flight of stairs. But since there's not an exact time, how do I coordinate? Hire big dudes to sit around and drink mate for 3 hours?
And does anyone have any big dudes in their rolodex?
What a logistical disaster.

It's a problem. Pay the delivery guys a bit extra, assuming there's more than one of them. Boxes of tiles are heavy, I have a small cart I got off ML for stuff like that. Arrange it in advance, if possible.

The people that deliver sometimes would take the boxes upstairs, etc for an extra fee. Do ask them.

When I did the renovation of my place the tradesmen that did the tile job went to the tire store and pick them up, and brought back to my apartment. They charged extra of course. Can you ask your tradesmen if they are able to do this?

I suspect that @mageesa has ordered online, and the van driver will be more than happy to deliver his tiles to the pavement outside.

I'll share this unfortunate vignette: when we were still building our house, out here in the sticks, we thought "why not get ahead of the curve, and buy electro-domestics and furniture wherever we see good offers". We could keep stuff in our rented apartment in the meantime. So, naive as we were, we thought that would work.

We did lock in some good prices.

But I will never forget the fridge delivery (from @electrogvnorte, if I remember correctly). Big, big fridge. Electrolux, French door, ice cube maker, it was an exhibition model, so it had one or two dents and bangs. Nothing that couldn't be obscured by a fridge magnet. Pinamar, Mar de Ajo, no problem.

So, the day arrived. I had my trusty little cart. The driver of the van had none. There was no-one else. The concierge (an extremely nice person), said the wheelchair lift wouldn't do it. We took the fridge down to the underground garage, after much persuasion of the van driver, tried to put it in the lift, and failed. Damn fridge got parked outside the lift, for the residents to complain about, until we rented a storage area and finally took it away. Banged up a bit more, there are more fridge magnets now.

I am posting this, @mageesa, so you realize your experience won't be this bad.

Okay! I talked to the logistics team of the tile company, and they agreed to move the delivery date to when my tile guys are here (taking the old tiles down). And those fine fellows agreed to haul the boxes up.

Thanks for suggestions, because the tile company says the drivers are not permitted to touch the load(!!). But the company was surprisingly willing to let the boxes sit in their warehouse an extra week and a half. Now I know why people (with more money) pay general contractors.
