I need a beach

I'm having strong craving for some beach time you know sitting on a recliner, soaking up some sun, llistening to the surf and admiring passing bikinis. My problem is that I'm having trouble finding the right destination. The temperature Rio is only in the '70s. Panama, Florida, The Caribbean are long, long flights away. Northern Brazil has beautiful beaches, but since my wife and I are seniors we can only spend a few hours on the beach then we need to find something else to do and the cities in Northern Brazil seem to be uninteresting, at least according to my research.

I'm hoping that I'm missing something and someone will show me the ideal place for us to go.

It's just an overnight flight to Miami. And if you don't like Miami you can travel a couple of hours by car to Naples on the West Coast which is much quieter. There is a beautiful downtown shopping area, lots of fine restaurants and a cultural center with classical and popular concerts. There is a zoo in Naples and you can travel to Sarasota if you like, a couple of hours away, to visit the excellent Ringling Museum and house.

Yes Chris, all true. We were in Jupiter in January. the overnight flight home left me with a backache thats still bothering me so I'm not ready for another overnight flight. I made this post because I'm hoping that I missed a good June beach destination nearby in South America.

Try flying Business Class - many airlines have lie down seats, like beds, If your dates are flexible the cost may be quite reasonable.

Maybe twice the cheapest cattle class ticket, but well worth it. And not too much, considering the whole cost of the trip: hotel, car, meals, medical insurance, etc.

Good advice. My backache isn't ready for an overnight yet but I hope to try business class in Sept.

It's 6.5 hours to Bogota, where you can stop over for a day or two and look around, then 2 hours on to Cartagena, which has beaches (and some nice trips to the islands), and the historic walled city.

Get an Airbnb in Bocagrande if you want to be more independent, or a boutique hotel in the walled city. It is very touristy, and the walled city does get very lively at night (lots of rooftop bars), but there's so much to see, especially if you haven't been before. June is probably not high season in the Caribbean (hot, humid, hurricane season further north, so lots of rain).

There are other destinations on the coast, as well as San Andres and Providencia, but from what you're saying they'd be too boring.

Otherwise, sticking pins in a map, Mancora in northern Peru is supposed to be nice (a friend stayed there for a few months, so I could get some recommendations), and you would have lots of opportunity to see archeology sites. 4.5 hours to Lima, again, worth stopping over for a day or so, then 1.5 hours to Mancora. Ecuador has fantastic beaches, but with the security situation there I wouldn't recommend it.

Closer to home, Encarnacion in Paraguay has river beaches, temperatures currently low 20s but once the polar air has gone away they will be having 30 degree days again. It's close, so you can be spontaneous and go once you see a good weather forecast. There are things to see, reducciones, the observatory, and all manner of waterfalls and rivers but they're a bit inaccessible. Iguazu isn't close by, but worth making an effort to see.

Never been to the Brazilian beaches but I had a splendid time during the winter a long time ago in Dominican Republic, Playa Dorada/Puerto Plata and also in the Puerto Rican beaches. I would love to return.

A lot of missing information here but let's have some fun anyway. You mention your back hurting after a while...how long is a while? Who knows, here is a flight time map. It shows how far you can get until your back gives out.

Now you mention that 70 is too cold for you. Alright...what temperature do you like? I have no idea...here's a heat map forecast indicator:

You put the date & time and it gives you the temperature...here's tomorrow at noon. Pick a temperature that won't kill you.

Alright, now all you're missing is what you define as an "interesting city", who knows what this but let's try. Here's a random map of the "best ranked" beaches.

There you go...add up all three...which basically says, if you don't like Brazil then get your back ready for a 6 hour flight.

You need to find an all inclusive in northern Brazil, they have private beaches, pools, cabanas, restaurants, theaters, spa, activities etc. like Grand Palladium Imbassaí Resort or Iberostar Waves Bahia for example.

Yes, that sounds wonderful. It's about 80f there now. Our doctors strongly urge us to limit the time we spend in the sun. Is there anything to do, sightseeing, etc outside the resort?
