My local Toshiba service center moved away. There are days when the notebook won't boot and others when it does. It's been in use since May 2010, and I'm not quite ready to buy another one.
I get the message: insert boot disk and press any key.

Send PM if you have a boot disk for a Toshiba Satellite that could solve the problem. In the meantime, I'm keeping the notebook on and plugged in.

Sounds like your drive is about to give up the ghost.

Don't be Toshiba dependant. I have a Vista class Satellite that I reformatted and started from scratch years ago using an OEM W7 install. You only need the OS disk and then download all the necessary drivers from the Toshiba Customer support page. Been running flawlessly since W7 beta was published.

Suggest you backup all your data and format the drive, then put everything back in place. Wouldn't hurt to run a thorough scandisk at boot.
YOU NEED a boot disk for the exact same flavor of OS installed. Be it 32/64 bits, Pro. Home, etc.

The problem lies not necessarily with the drive, the PSU might be the culprit.

Thank you. Friends have been telling me to backup everything on the hard drive. Now is definitely the time.
