I'll lay out the scenario first, and then I'll share what my idea is.
I have a quantity of pesos and I want to change them to dollars.
Since I cannot buy dollars here, I'll be going to Montevideo.
I did some research via an Uruguayan casa de cambio and the crazy thing I saw was that they exchange the ARS to dollars at the Blue rate of over $9 ARS per dollar.
Then I thought, what if I buy pesos Uruguayos here with my ARS, and then exchange those in Montevideo for dollars. The rate of exchange at this casa de cambio between pesos Uruguayos and dollars was the standard rate.
With the Euro it's the same situation--no Blue rates for changing them to dollars in Uruguay.
Do any of you have any experience in trying to change paper money to dollars in Uruguay, regardless of the nationality? Is there a limit that a casa de cambio exchanges?
I've read many things here about getting dollars from ATMs / credit cards, but not this exactly.
Any advice or help would be great. Thanks in advance.
