I Need Advice For Buying Dollars.

Wow - I'm traveling back to the US next week. I assumed Wells Fargo wouldn't change ARS. Did you call a local branch office or speak to their customer service call center people? I feel like the call center people aren't always that great and I've been misinformed a number of times in the past. I'm going to make a couple of calls today and see what I find out. Could be good??! [/background]

Update: I just spoke to the wells fargo foreign currency department (or something like that!) and they said they are definitely not buying Argentine pesos. This is the # I used: 1-800-786-5593.

I just got a response back from Wells Fargo bank in the US.

They say that they will exchange ARS up to the IRS reporting limit of $10,000 USD, so....

+/-$5.35 x $10,000 USD = $53,500 pesos = 535 purple paper bills...goddamn. There isn't ANY money belt made for that.

Wahahaha really? Wells Fargo going to buy your 53 thousand pesos -- sorry i don't think that's going to happen -- last year I couldn't even find anyone that would take more than about 500! Also, be wary of the exchange rate -- that's official rate here, outside of the country the peso isn't recognised at that value. If you're wanting to change 50k+ in pesos to dollars you'll probably get a better rate on the black market within Argentina than you will with Wells Fargo.

Question from me to the board -- we've been cut off by Paypal, any ideas if there's a way to get accepted status back?

They froze your account or your ccs are bouncing?

I think it's the CC -- Honestly, I think my husband is a little in over his head with figuring out Paypal ;D I'm going to get him to log into his acct for me tonight so I can see what exactly is up.

Next week if you want o exchange at the blue rate, I'll give you dollars for pesos... PM me

Who ever gets the exact blue rate when exchanging pesos for dollars? unless the exchange is for greater than 10,000 US dollars. To think someone will exchange at the preciodolar rate and feels another will abide by it is simply not viable in my humble opinion.. I would like to hear what others feel about that exchange too. Of course we all want the best deal. that is why markets exist.. However People need to be realistic too. I spent most of my life on the New York Stock Exchange. We understand currency, commodity, stock, bonds in terms of buy and sell.. I hope others here in the community need to be realistic in what they feel they will get and accept the dollar exchange rates. I will stop there in my opinion of events.
