I know this is a forum primarily for folks in BA (hence the name...), but I'm relocating from the US to Cordoba at the end of August to open a backoffice for my employer.

Anyone have any general advice on Cordoba? Good/bad areas to live, etc.?

Been lurking these forums for a few weeks now, you have a fantastic community :)

I can only say that you have some great countryside to explore over the long weekends and holidays. The sierras and in particular the area around La Cumbrecita is a joy if you like to be outdoors walking, cycling, fishing etc. The whole Valle de calamuchita is a great asset for Cordoba. People were extraordinarily friendly and have a distinct accent. Much softer and lilting that the BA city accent.

Never been to the city tho! Sorry !

Córdoba is a major educational center and, as such, has plenty of cultural activities as well. Depending on what distance you want to commute, the town of Alta Gracia about twenty minutes south, is very attractive.

I love Cordoba. Friendly people, they talk slowly (easier to understand for a newcomer), the architecture is great, the weather is fantastic (no humidity like in Bs As... Lo que mata es la humedad, lalala). Lucky you

Rt 20 in the direction of Carlos Paz has some very nice areas , barrios privadas , and the commute does not seem to be bad. I am NOT recommending the city of Carlos Paz , just in that direction.

Also , Dublin is spot on in his post , lot's of nice day trips , weekend trips , etc around Cordoba. La Cumbre is great.

Hi! I have lived in Cordoba for the last three years. I would look generally in the north or west of the city for places to live. It depends if you want a more urban lifestyle or prefer to live in the suburbs. If you want the urban lifestyle, barrios Nuevo Cordoba (lots of students) General Paz and Cofico/Alta Cordoba are all great neighborhoods. If you prefer suburbs or have kids, Cerro de las Rosas, Urca, (Barrio) Villa General Belgrano are most popular. I second all these posts about the Sierras - so many great hidden spots!

You can find more english speaking Cordobese residents on a certain large social networking site, where we have a page. ;)

Thanks for the great info! I found an expat group on said social networking site, hopefully it was the one you were referring to ;)

I'm bringing my wife and newborn son with me, so while we're looking for something safe/quiet, we'd rather not be too far away from public transport and accessible amenities without a car. I've been looking on all of the local classifieds sites to get an idea of pricing and such, but I'm not able to derive much from the maps in terms of quality of neighborhood/amenities.

You found the right group. ;)

I also would read up on this forum about renting without a guarantee - this could even be a bigger issue in Cordoba, which will not have as many furnished short term rentals on the market that BA does. Except for short term, furnished housing for tourists (less than 6 mo. term), a 2 year lease with two guarantees who own property in the Province is required by law. There are ways around this though, perhaps by making a substantial upfront deposit.

Just ask the Cordoba group about specific neighborhoods. I have never seen much info online about this, even in spanish.
