From the little bit I've always understood (might not be correct), 10,000 triggers some disclosures, but is not treated as suspicious - it is very normal for any medium-sized-or-larger business to involve transactions over $10.000, there are any number of reasons that individuals would need this as well, and assuming any such transaction raises red flags (as opposed to a flag) appears silly.
Multiple deposits under 10,000, on the other hand, generates a suspicion (presumption, going by this article?) of structuring, which is treated as more problematic: it may give (overzealous?) investigators an impression that you have something to hide.
