Hey,

Does anyone know a good, big Jewish bookstore that maybe keeps some literature in English?

Also, is there any nice Jewish giftshop in the city?

Would appreciate a couple of addresses.

The Templo Libertad has a giftshop, but it's hardly extensive. (Open Tues & Thurs from ~3pm-6:30pm.) Check their website for details.

There are some places in Once (of course), but I can't think of specific streets. I think that there might actually be a place on Santa Fe between Pueyrredon & Ecuador (on the "even" side of the street), but again... I'm failing a bit.

The three or four main streets would be Lavalle, Tucuman, Viamonte, and (maybe) San Luis, and then cross streets from Uriburu to ~Ecuador.

You might consider calling a temple/synagogue or Chabad (Jabad).

I met a kid passing out Jewish literature on the street in NYC (53rd @ Lex) a few weeks ago who is currently studying on Ecuador & Marcelo T. (puede ser?), but was in the States for Passover (I guess). By "kid" I mean ~19 to 22-ish.

Start with that and go from there.

There is a Jewish bookstore on Tucuman (like Napoleon said between Uriburu and around Ecuador). I just passed it a few days ago and I think I saw English books in the window. I will be in the area tomorrow, I'll take a look and send you the specifics.

Libreria Sigal: Av. Corrientes 2854 (1193) Capital Federal - Teléfono: 4865-7208

Aguero & Mansilla, bookstore and judaica, and a reasonably priced kosher/parve rottiseria next door, or nearby

Also, for gift shop, the one inside the AMIA building only sell handcraft made from locals. Some stuff is cheap and some other not really but they always have cute things. I bought a gorgeous candle for Hanukah with the menorah crafter for only 50 pesos (last Dec). the thing is to get into the AMIA building you need to "be invited" by someone inside or have sign up with an accredited travel agency that sells Jewish tours. You do not need to buy the tour, if they are cool, they can put you in the guest list.

Mercaz Hasefer, Jean Jaures 845 (corner Viamonte)
Nice bookstore, primarily Hebrew texts (aimed at the religious crowd), with a small selection in English.
They also have a very decent selection of Judaica.
