I am looking to move down to Buenos Aires in August. I am moving down with two friends. Our reasons? Borges and Cortazar. We are devotees of these two authors and would like to see their home country.
I am looking for any job. My main concern right now is knowing I can hit the ground running when I get down there. I currently work as a full-time journalist for a long-established bi-weekly newspaper in New Hampshire with a circulation rate of approximately 10,000. I cover local government, business and community features for the most part. I have taught English before and also have experience as an editor, proofreader and S.A.T. teacher.
Essentially my qualifications are:
3 years experience as a journalist working a beat, an average of 10 articles a week @ 700 words per article (I currently work as a journalist)
1 year teaching S.A.T./Writing/Speaking at a college in Zhengzhou, China (average 20 hours teaching, 15 hours curriculum preparation)
6 months as a private ESL instructor in New York
6 months teaching SAT at a high school in New York
4 years working in a large independent bookstore on Broadway in Manhattan
3 years working in a library
2 years correcting essays in the writing center of my college
B.A. in English from Connecticut College (ranked 17th in the nation by U.S. News in 2003, the year I began)
a score of 1420 (out of 1600, 97 percentile) on the SAT's in 2003
email me for samples from my portfolio: [email protected]
I lived alone in central China for a year, so you would not need to worry about your new employee getting cold feet and running off. I am very comfortable being outside of my natural habitat. I plan to stay in Argentina for a minimum of 2 years.
If you are reading this and do not have a job to offer, maybe you have some advice for me. Or maybe you know of an apartment opening up in B.A. around that time (n.b. a relatively inexpensive apartment. reporters do not get paid well.)
