Hi, all,
I am nearing the end of my 2nd trimester of my first pregnancy, and so far, everything has gone well overall. My pregnancy with my son has been healthy and he's been a textbook example of a heatlhy baby (thank God!). My obstetrician attends Trinidad Palermo and Suizo Argentino for the births of his patients.
I've done as much research as I can reasonably do online about these two hospitals, and looked at their websites. They both look well-equipped and assuring to me, but then again, I really don't know what to specifically look for (apart from the obvious) that may be important for a smooth birth. Have any of you had experiences in either of these places (either for yourself, a partner, a friend, family member, or someone that you personally know)?
I've got some random questions that are important for me to know, but I'd rather hear them from the people on this forum, since there is very little sugar-coating here and giving birth here as a foreigner can be a specific factor that may impact my experience and expectations. I've found you guys to be mostly pretty straightforward, but I also know that if praises are sung if the situation calls for it.
Anyways, here are some of my general questions:
* Apart from your personal OB-GYN that you selected, how did you find the hospital staff (reception, nurses, anesthesiologists, specialists, etc.)? Did they respond promptly to your needs (like if you were in pain or concerned about something)? Were they patient (since Spanish may not have been your first language)? Did you find them to be compassionate or more "strictly business"?
* Due to a surgery that I underwent 10 yrs ago, there is a strong possibility that I will need a C-section. If applicable, did the hospital staff explain to you what they were about to do with each step to make it easier to deal with (it's pretty scary!)? Was the C-section performed "successfully" (not just getting the baby out safely, but doing their best not to treat you like a frog in biology class)?
* If applicable, how soon after your request were you able to get an epidural?
* Who was permitted to be with you before and during delivery?
* Were cameras/photographs permitted in the delivery room? What about for a C-section?
* Experiences with the registro civil in the hospital for reporting the birth of your baby there?
* Any noteworthy experiences right after the delivery (such as with the Apgar test, administering first round of shots, unexpected accomodations, and so on)?- Good, bad, and everything in between!
* Any other info (anything and everything is very appreciated) that could be important for me to know.
A million thanks in advance!
